Empire Mining Corporation's projects are located in Turkey, Albania and Serbia. In Turkey, Empire announced a significant new discovery at its Bursa copper-gold project in January 2011. The Discovery hole drilled at the Demirtepe target intersected significant copper-gold-silver skarn mineralization including 2.02% copper, 0.96 g/t gold and 21.64 g/t silver over 47.35 m from 112.2 m to 159.55 m, which included 8.0 m of 9.1% copper, 4.68 g/t gold and 95.3 g/t silver. The drilling program at Demirtepe has been expanded and accelerated and is focused on obtaining continuity within the skarns and drilling into the intrusion identified in the geophysics, which is believed to be a porphyry source of the skarn mineralization. In Albania, Empire controls chromite licences in the historical Bulqiza Mining District. The district has past production of about 20 million tonnes of high-grade (35-42% Cr2O3) and high-quality (CrFe ratios of up to 3:1) chromite. Chromite is essential in the production of stainless steel and has no substitutes. China produced about 36% of the world's stainless steel in 2010, however it was reportedly required to import more than 95% of its chromite, apparently making chromite China's single largest major metal deficiency. Prior to the collapse of communism, Albania was the world's third largest producer of chromite, the vast majority of which was produced from the Bulqiza Project area. On November 7th, 2011, Empire reported that it temporarily suspended its Albanian operations pending clarification of their status. In Serbia, Empire is advancing four copper and gold projects with significant exploration upside, with the aim of defining drill targets for future drilling campaigns.
