Empire Mining - Serbia

Serbia is located in the south-eastern Balkan region of Europe. It is a member of the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, and the Council of Europe, which it presided over in 2007. It is also a potential candidate for membership in the European Union.

Mining in Serbia dates back to the Middle Ages when silver, gold and lead were extracted. There are many mineral deposits and major occurrences distributed throughout the country and today copper, along with lead, zinc and bauxite are the main metallic ores mined with the majority of the copper production coming from deposits in the Timoc (Bor) District in north-eastern Serbia and lead and zinc production coming from the Kopaonik District in south-central Serbia.

Columbus Copper is advancing four copper and gold projects (Nevlje, Kursumlija, Povlen, Djavolja Varos) in Serbia with significant exploration upside, with the aim of defining drill targets for future drilling campaigns.

Past geophysical surveys undertaken at Columbus Copper's Nevlje Project have identified what is believed to be the most intense magnetic anomaly in Serbia. Columbus Copper has carried out confirmatory geophysical work, geochemical sampling and a thorough review of historical data, interpreting a possible buried porphyry system. This view was strengthened by Reservoir Minerals Inc.'s recent announcement where drilling was reported to encounter a 160 metre thick intersection at 10.16% copper equivalent (average 6.92% copper and 5.40 grams per tonne gold) between 461 and 621 metres depth at their Timok Project located 120 kilometers to the northwest of Columbus Copper's Nevlje Project along the same mineralized belt.
